INDIA TODAY: Case against Telangana MLA for controversial remarks on Prophet Muhammad

A case has been registered against Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh at Hyderabad’s Shah Ali Banda Police Station for allegedly making derogatory remarks with regard to Prophet Muhammad during a Dussehra event in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore.

According to police sources, the FIR has been lodged under various relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 61 and 67 of the IT Act.

Earlier this year, Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, removed two Facebook groups and three Instagram accounts linked to the Telangana MLA, following a report by India Hate Lab (IHL) highlighting the spread of hate speech through these platforms.

The deleted Facebook groups had over one million members, while the Instagram accounts had more than 155,000 followers.

Singh was previously banned from Meta’s platforms in 2020 under its policy on “dangerous individuals and organisations,” but he and his supporters allegedly continued to share his content through new pages.
